At Foodwise Solutions Inc., our journey began with a blend of inspiration and innovation at the 2023 Sustainability Hackathon hosted by the University of Colorado, Boulder. There, our founders—Emma, Byron, and Jennifer—set out to solve a problem close to home. As service industry professionals, they witnessed firsthand the significant issue of food waste within the restaurant sector.

During the week-long competition, our team was driven by a startling observation made by our CEO, Emma Bonerb. One night while throwing out the trash at her restaurant serving job, her manager said, “We threw away enough food to feed all of Boulder.” This comment shed light on the vast amounts of food wasted daily and highlighted the need for a sustainable intervention. Motivated by this insight, our founders engaged with various restaurant operators to deeply understand their challenges and needs.

The result was Foodwise, a restaurant management software tailored to not only enhance operational efficiency but also significantly reduce food waste. By leveraging data-driven insights, Foodwise provides restaurants with precise prep lists, ensuring that food usage aligns more closely with actual demand.
